Cool Sculpting, also called Cryolipolysis, is a medical procedure that helps get rid of excess fat cells underneath your skin.
During a Cool Sculpting procedure, a plastic surgeon or other licensed practitioner uses a special tool to cool certain parts of your body to freezing temperature. The procedure freezes and kills fat cells in the part of your body that you’re having treated.
Within a few weeks of treatment, these dead fat cells are naturally broken down and flushed out of your body through your liver.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has certified Cool Sculpting as a safe medical treatment. Cool Sculpting has many benefits over traditional liposuction.
It’s nonsurgical, noninvasive, and requires no recovery time. And it’s effective in reducing fat cells in a given treatment area by up to 20 to 25 percent.
It’s also important to note that Cool Sculpting is not a treatment for obesity. Rather, it can help eliminate small amounts of excess fat that doesn’t easily go away with diet and exercise alone.
If you’re a good candidate for it, Cool Sculpting has some benefits over other fat-elimination procedures.
Fat cells frozen by Cool Sculpting never return because the body eliminates them. There are no incisions because it’s a noninvasive procedure, and there’s no scarring after treatment.
There’s also no required rest or recovery time. Results may begin to show in as little as a few weeks, with most people experiencing full results three months after their final treatment.
Some people who do CoolSculpting opt to treat several parts of the body, usually:
- lower back
It can also reduce the appearance of cellulite on the legs, buttocks, and arms. Some people also use it to reduce excess fat underneath the chin.
It takes an hour to treat each targeted body part. Treating more body parts requires more Cool Sculpting treatments to see results. Larger body parts may also require more treatments than smaller body parts.
Cool Sculpting is most effective when a patient is close or nearing their ideal, healthy weight. Typically, a patient should only have about 20-30 extra pounds to lose.
Patients at the ideal weight for this procedure may only need to undergo one round of Cool Sculpting to achieve their goal appearance.
The procedure is safe and promotes a natural bodily response to fat destruction.
Each treatment will be performed several months apart, to give the body enough time to react naturally, and dispose of the fat cells organically. Typically it is best to wait a minimum of 30 days before starting a new session of Cool Sculpting,
