In Ramanathapuram district, 70 per cent of the young voters who are 18 years old has not included them in the voter list.
Political observers suggest that it shows that young people are not interested in elections and politics.
Ramanathapuram Lok Sabha constituency consists of Ramanathapuram, Mudukulathur,
Thiruvadanai, Paramakudi (separate), Pudukottai District Aranthangi and Virudhunagar District Tiruchuzhi.
A total of 15,52,761 voters were included in the electoral rolls issued on 31.1.2019. In Ramanathapuram district, there are 11,22,589 voters in 4 constituencies.
District Collector Veeraraghava Rao at the press conference, At the age of 18 in the district, 9,226 disabled persons are included in the electoral roll.
Steps have been taken to add 100% voters list to 18 and 19-year-old young voters. There were 4,933 voters in the draft electoral roll published on 1.9.2018.
To increase this number necessary awareness programs have been initiated.
The Election Commission has conduct special camps in colleges to add 18 years old young voters.
However, 100 per cent of the electorate did not appear in the voters list. It shows that most young people do not have the awareness that qualified leaders can be chosen by voting.
