In a bizarre incident, a 56-tonne bridge, measuring 75-feet, has vanished without a trace from over the Umba river in Russia’s Murmansk region.
The disappearance has now prompted an investigation but locals speculate the structure was stolen by thieves.
According to a Daily Mail report, the 56-tonne structure made up the central section of a dismantled bridge over the Umba River, near the abandoned settlement of Oktyabrskaya.
Reports of its disappearance first appeared in May on Russian social media site VK.
After the report first surfaced on the social media site, many residents of the area said thieves were responsible for the disappearance.
However, photos from May 16 on VK showed the central section had broken and fallen into the river water.
But on May 26, new aerial pictures revealed the bridge had completely disappeared from the water.
The locals, who told reporters the disappearance was not an act of nature, have reported the incident to Kirovsk Police.
The bridge, which once connected the villages of Aikuven and Lovorezo, was dismantled several years ago, local media reported.
