After 84 days Rameshwaram Pamban bridge restored

After the completion of maintenance work on the Pamban Bridge, which took 84 days later, Rameswaram has been re-trained via Pamban Thillai Pampalam.

More than 10 trains were running every day from Rameswaram to Ramanathapuram district.

On December 4, last year, a crack was found on the 2.3 km long Pampan bridge, connecting Ramanathapuram and Rameswaram Island.

As the bridge broke down, the train service was stopped and restoration works started immediately after the notice.

The bridge was designed to be open both the sides for the ships to pass along.

A week ago the bridge restoration work was completed and with 6.5 tons of stainless steel wires the crack was repaired

The inspection of the repair works in Pamban bridges were over last week. Following 84 days, today (February 27) the train service was started at Rameswaram.

According to Southern Railways, all trains will be operated from Rameshwaram railway station via this bridge.

Express trains, including Bhubaneswar, Chetu, Coimbatore, have crossed the bridge at 10 km speed.
