Oscar-winning music composer AR Rahman recently bore the brunt of social media trolls after his daughter, Khatija, arrived at an event wearing a niqab.
Many netizens pointed fingers at Rahman and his family terming this a “regressive act”.
But while Khatija herself took to social media to clarify that it’s her personal choice and Rahman, too, gave it back to trolls saying she has the “freedom to choose”, the trolls didn’t stop.
Continuing his point, Rahman took to Instagram on Friday and shared a beautiful family photograph wherein his three children – Raheema, Khatija and Ameen were seen posing for a photoshoot for Hello magazine. In the photo, too, Khatija can be seen sporting a black and gold niqab.
It had all started when Khatija shared the stage with Rahman at the event celebrating 10 years of the film, Slumdog Millionaire, that had earned him an Academy Award.
She was seen wearing a black sari and a niqab which had later transpired trolls on the internet to do what they do the best.
In an elaborate post, she had penned that it’s her decision and she has the freedom to choose. She also clarified that neither her father nor any member from her family has forced her to do so.
She had written, “I would like to say that the attire I wear or the choices I make in my life does not have anything to do with my parents. The veil has been my personal choice with complete acceptance and honour.
I’m a sane mature adult who knows to make my choices in life. Any human being has a choice to wear or do what he/she wants and that’s what I’ve been doing. Hence, kindly don’t make your own judgements without understanding the exact situation.”
