Even this year, Chennai’s Presidency College has managed to stay in the list of the top 10 Colleges in the country.
But there was one difference.
The 179-year-old college that boats of alumni like C V Raman, C Rajagopalachari and P Chidambaram, has now moved two positions upward, securing the third rank.
This means that Presidency now ranks above institutions like St Stephen’s College and Lady Shri Ram College for Women.
One of the oldest colleges in the country, it is among the two Presidency Colleges established by the British, with the second one being in Kolkata.
Located in Chennai’s Chepauk, it is affiliated to the University of Madras.
NIRF India Rankings 2019 for Indian educational institutes was announced by President Ram Nath Kovind at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi on Monday.
In its fourth year of rankings, the NIRF announced it under nine categories – Overall, Universities, Engineering, Colleges, Management, Pharmacy, Medical, Architecture, and Law.
When the college made it to the Top 10 list last year, it was a shocker as well as a pleasant surprise, especially for the students and management of Presidency.
