The sales of the ‘Modi jacket’ in the state of Maharashtra has been declining for the past few months.
The jacket worn by Prime Minister Narendra Modi is very popular in direct sales and online sales.
The merchants say that this kind of clothing sale is very slow in the last few months in Maharashtra.
Earlier, 35 Modi jackets were sold every day. Now only one jacket is sold for a week a local businessman told BTI news agency.
Rajendra Pawar, a Textile Retailer in Aurangabad, has claimed that only 10 jackets have been sold in his shop last year.
Textiles retailers from Gulmandi, Tilak Path, Aurangpura, Sarfah, Osmanapura and Sidco have also said that the Modi jacket sales are very bad.
Gourvinder Singh, a textile industry businessman, said that the factors including
demonetization, goods and service tax and drought have reduced the sale of Modi jacket in Maharashtra.
On September 17, 2018, for the birthday of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the sale of Modi jackets was launched in India under the brand Kaadhi India.
