The Congress Working Committee (CWC) rejected party president Rahul Gandhi’s offer to resign on moral grounds following the party’s dismal performance in Lok Sabha elections 2019.
The meeting was chaired by Gandhi and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and was attended by senior leaders of the party including Manmohan Singh, P Chidambaram and others.
Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi was also present.
The CWC meeting began at 11 am.
While addressing a press conference on Thursday, Rahul had said that the further decisions in terms of fixing responsibilities for the defeat would be taken by the CWC in the days to come.
The BJP came back with a thumping majority in the elections that concluded on Thursday.
While the Union Cabinet led by PM Narendra Modi resigned on Friday in order to form a new government in the days to come.
The Congress party is struggling to match a tally that could give them the post of the Leader of Opposition.
