A new airport will be set up at 3,500 acres in Maamandur a few miles away from Chennai.
The international airport is in operation at Chennai Meenambakkam. Realizing high population density in Chennai, the second airport will be set up for more air traffic.
KGS Developers have agreed to the contract and face the final approval of the government.
The airport is being constructed at an investment of Rs 4,500 crore on 3,500 acres of land.
The Airports Authority of India has decided the place and completed the detailed study and other tests.
KGS Developers GG George, one of the shareholder, told the Times of India media,
“We have signed a contract for $ 100 million in the first phase of setting up this airport.
This airport will be in use by 2023. It will have the ability to handle 2 million passengers.
The airport is located between the GST road and the railway line and it is good for the people. Two runways are designed for the airport “
It is noteworthy that the airport in Chennai, Meenambakkam is capable of handling 2.1 crore passengers every year.
