The textile minister said that of textile products in Tirupur district are exported more than 90%.
The development of the knitwear industry was initiated on February 28 by Textile Minister Smriti Irani.
Speaking on the occasion, Smriti Irani said, “Preparation for knitwear has more than
15,000 registered machines in the country. There are knitting machines in homes too.
The Knitwear in Tirupur, Punjab in Ludhiana, Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh and Kolkata in West Bengal have great industrial growth.
In particular, Tirupur is the most important export hub. More than 90 per cent of the garments manufactured in Tirupur is exported.
Rs 487.07 crore has been allocated from the Government side for the Development Knitwear Department. In the next three years, Rs 439.35 crore will be spent.”
Smriti Irani had a discussion with the representatives of the Knitwear Industries Association of Tirupur, Ludhiana and Calcutta by Video Conferencing.
