Sunday Market is one of those few markets in Pondicherry that are quite well-known not only amongst locals but travellers as well.

Observed on M.G. Road, Sunday Market is probably the most hyped market destination in Pondicherry.

This market was founded and built around 30 years ago when local traders started gathering here to sell their products and they received a good response here,

since then soon evolved into a full-fledged marketplace.

With over 1,000 shops, now the ‘Sunday market’ has grown into a popular one-stop shopping place.

You can find almost many little thing here including the likes of apparel, metal plates, cups, scarves, pots, shoes, clothes, bags, glasses, footwear, electronic items, books and much more!

And most importantly STREET FOOD…

Vendors from different parts of the city as well as nearby places like Cuddalore, Villupuram, Tindivanam even from Chennai set up their shops here.

You can also buy everyday household items which are available in various shops on the pavements.

Ranging from summer dresses, footwear, belts, perfumes, shirts, and pants, you will be barraged with things that you can’t help but buy because they’re so cheap and yet in a fair quality.

Heaps of them spread about on blue mats as you make your way through M.G.Road, which tempts you over and over again.

The Sunday market is spreading across streets, stretching for a couple of kilometres.

There are many hotels, bakeries, ice cream parlours, or stuff your mouth with Bhajjis and Bondas here to quench your hunger.

And since you’re going to be walking more again, because there’s more to buy, add rasgullas jalebis and even dry fruits to that list.

On the street, your next outlook should be the jewellery stalls.

Ranging from the teenagers’ favourite little studs,Tatoo stalls to the traditional north Indian Jhumkas and Ram-Leela earrings you’ll find them all in cornucopia,

And the price you have to pay is very very low! Just 10 to 30 INR.

A major attraction of Sunday market is the wide collection of books it offers for sale on pavements of M.G.Road at affordable rates.

Collection of books in French,German and other world languages are also available here.
