Tamil Writer Prapanchan a Sahitya Akademi awardee passed away on Friday 21.12.2018. He survived by his wife and three sons, who was reportedly battling cancer at the age of 73.Prapanchan won the Sahitya Akademi award in 1995 for ‘Vaanam Vasappadum’ novel. He has written over 250 short stories, 300 essays and 10 novels.

His works have also been translated in  Hindi, Kannada, Telugu, German English and French. Prapanchan was born in Puducherry and he started his career as a Tamil teacher at Tanjavur. He was praised for his feminist ideas in his works and called to be an unparalleled creator. His play Muttai is part of the curriculum at Delhi University and his short story collection Netru Manidhargal is a textbook in many colleges.

The sudden demise of the unparalleled creator has saddened the Tamil literary world.
