First Ever Image Of A Black Hole Captured By Astronomers!

First Ever Image Of A Black Hole Captured By Astronomers!

On April 10 2019, the world saw the first ever clear and direct image of the Black Hole.

History was made!

This historic image shows a ring of light coming from the gas falling into the Black Hole.

The black hole itself is shielded by the event horizon, a boundary from within which nothing can escape, and this is the dark interior in the image.

Though astronomers have had evidence for the existence of massive black holes for many years,

this historic moment marks the first time that an image of the same was shown to the world.

The supermassive black hole now immortalised by a far-flung network of radio telescopes is 50 million lightyears away in a galaxy known as M87.

This BlackHole has become an internet sensation, where people all over the global widely shared the images in Social Media.

This Black Hole was revealed to the world with the Help of Katie Bouman, the woman who transformed the ideology behind black holes forever!

Bouman helped develop the algorithm used for the Event Horizon Telescope. Now she’s the toast of social media.

Bouman delivered a TED talk in 2016 called “How to take a picture of a black hole”

Bouman is currently a postdoctoral fellow with Event Horizon Telescope and will start as an assistant professor in Caltech’s computing and mathematical sciences department, according to her website.

The supermassive black hole now immortalised by a far-flung network of radio telescopes is 50 million lightyears away in a galaxy known as M87.

Locking down an image of M87’s supermassive black hole at such distance is comparable to photographing a pebble on the Moon!
