The Temple offers a splendid display of 14 Gopurams (Towers), that range in height from 45 to 52 meters.
Each Tower displays Thousands of Mythological Sculptures and Stories.
The Oldest Gopuram the One in the East, it was built by Maravarman Sundara Pandiyan between 1216 -1238.
The Southern Gopuram is 52 metres tall and was renovated in the 16th Century.
There are around 33,000 sculptures in the Temple.
A Massive ‘Natraja’ statue is embedded in huge silver Altar.
The Tower over the Sanctuary of Meenakshi – Sundareshwarar is gold plated.
The 16th Century Thousand Pillar Mandapam(Hall) has 985 uniquely carved Pillars.
The Two shrines occupy the remaining 15 Pillars.
These Pillars surprisingly produce different musical notes when tapped.
The Golden Lotus Pond inside the Temple is a Holy site.
It is believed to bestow success on those who enter the Pond.
