A massive controversy unfolded at the Sawai Man Singh Stadium in Jaipur on Monday night (March 25).
Rajasthan Royals were up against Kings XI Punjab and Jos Buttler was the man who had all the attention.
With a flurry of sixes and fours against the Punjab bowling attack, Buttler had frustrated the skipper Ravichandran Ashwin.
However, in a moment of sheer anti-climax, Buttler’s innings ended on a controversial and unexpected note when Ashwin mankaded Buttler.
Well, it was the first instance of such a scene in IPL history, but whether it was justified or not, that was the question.
It was in the 13th over of the match. Ashwin was into the attack while Buttler was well past his fifty-run mark.
In the fifth ball, Ashwin paused before the delivery and while returning back to his position, nonchalantly dislocated the bails to dismiss Buttler.
All happened in such an instance that Buttler was left stupified.
A heated conversation unfolded at the middle of the crease while the umpire went upstairs for a review.
The giant screen revealed that Buttler was casually outside the crease in a bid to get ready to take a single, but nowhere did it show any unfair advantage.
The whole of the stadium looked shocked as a livid Buttler walked back for a score of 69.
