Soon after India lost the World Cup semi-finals against New Zealand by 18 runs at Manchester, a video of MS Dhoni’s dejected look went viral on the internet.
Assuming that he was crying after getting run-out at a crucial juncture, emotional reactions poured in for MS Dhoni on Twitter.
Many called it “heartbreaking” to see Dhoni cry.
Even though the semi-final match between India and New Zealand left Indian fans disappointed, the performance of MS Dhoni was like a soothing balm to many.
Dhoni displayed immense grit and determination to cover up for the initial setback in the game, where India lost three wickets within six runs.
Needing 25 from 10, Dhoni took a single and turned for a 2nd run, the first run gave his his fifty, the second one was needed to ensure that he had made it to retain the strike.
That’s where he fell short. Dhoni was out with 3 cm to spare and the last hope that we had after Ravindra Jadeja’s departure, was gone.
That was the end, Dhoni knew it, entire India knew it and even the Kiwi players knew it. On his way back to pavilion, the 38-year-old was spotted in tears.
Seeing their hero break down like that, fans on social media failed to hold their tears as well.
While Dhoni himself hasn’t revealed if he is planning to retire after the World Cup or not, his act of sporting the stickers of different bat manufacturers alternatively suggest that the Dhoni is looking to thank those who helped him come this far in his career.
While an official word regarding his retirement might just around the corner, fans would be gutted to see him leave on a sorry note.
